DFI Day 4 Reflection
My brain is pretty full today and I need some time to come back to some of this and revisit the learning. This course is a really fantastic example of why we ought o be making learning resources rewindable for our learners.
How many of our children would be able to learn much more independently if they could rewind the instructions as many times as they needed to with no stigma attached?

Dorothy makes the point that we are wired to share. But I wonder where TMI comes in to this. How many cat videos does the world really need? Also, people are different. Not everyone cares so much whether anyone else has read their blog. I do get it though that sharing is important as part of the learning process. I think the power of blogging comes from the feedback and interaction with readers. Questions that lead to further exploration magnify the learning. Conversations add to understanding.
Learning to finish is a life skill.
Sheets cool things I didn't know before today
Freezing columns in google sheets
Autofill first 3 numbers will allow you to continue a sequence
Insert rows. Select the number of rows you want to insert and then go to insert rows. You will then be prompted to insert the number of rows you had selected.
Sparklines.
Split names into two columns.
Record macros for formatting in sheets.
Protect Sheet.
Useful tips:
Use a coffee cup and cut out the bottom to use as a voice enhancer for recording in a busy classroom.
To Do:
My maps. Will need some time to play.
Sheets. Practice the things I learnt today. See above.
Forms: Think about how I can use this to gather info from teachers that might help me with pastoral care or behaviour support.
Hi Paul
ReplyDeleteThanks for another reflective post outlining your takeouts for the day. I did enjoy your Form- made me laugh as I followed your line of questioning.
"I think the power of blogging comes from the feedback and interaction with readers" is absolutely what it is all about. Sharing on a Blog is very different from sticking a poster on a wall - although some people do say they use a Blog as a diary and are not interested in anyone else reading it. The conversations one has on a Blog can be so enriching and I find that I have so little time for my own blog because I spend so much time conversing on the Blogs of others. I think this environment still has an important place in social media because there is more opportunity for a reasoned conversation (including different opinions) than in some of the more rapid fire spaces.
Have you planned to develop more rewindable learning objects for your learners as a result of the lockdown and the DFI experience?
Thanks Dorothy. I don't have my own class but I am definitely thinking about how to make the things that we put out for teachers rewindable. Even if it just meets the needs of staff who are unable to make it to a meeting it is worth doing. Lots to think about.
